UPDATE FROM RTSL PRESIDENT TR. TUSHAR AMALEAN
Dear Tablers, Circlers, 41ers, Past Tablers, Activians, Apexians, Donors & Friends,
Its time for an update on the RTBI sponsored Thiranagama Bodhiraja Mahavidyalaya. As you have already learnt the 60 children of Tsunami affected school Patuwatha Lanka Sabha are now being accommodated in Thiranagama Bodhiraja Mahavidyalaya. This school is located just 600 mtrs away from Patuwatha Lanka Sabha inland accommodating 550 children in very old classrooms. RTSL (Round Table Sri Lanka) has agreed to rebuild Thiranagama Bodhiraja Mahavidyalaya at the cost of GBP280,000 which will accommodate 800 children.
We have received all the required approvals from the Ministry of Education to proceed with the construction based on our plans submitted and we will be laying the foundation stone for this school in May 2006 when the construction industry returns after the Singhalese (Local) New Year holidays by end April 2006.
Enclosed is the ground floor Architectural Plans of the school in Windows Media Format. My sincere apologies for it is not possible to reduce the size of the file as the resolution of the graphics are lost by doing so. The second floor of the school will consist of exactly the same specifications as the ground floor.
We will demolish the existing old structures of the Primary section and construct two storey new Primary Section Building block and move the children in this new building. Then we would demolish part of the old structures of the Senior section and construct the part of the new Secondary Section Building and finally the rest of the part of the Secondary section Building. We hope to complete the whole school in one year starting from May 2006.
We had called for tenders from five prequalified reputed contractors and received three quotes as detailed in the enclosed Bid Opening document. We are waiting for detailed analysis within this week from Tr. Romesh Fonseca who is our Architect and Monitoring committee member. A decision will be made by RTSL board next week to award the contract based on this analysis and signing of Contract will begin immediately after the Singhalse (Local) New Year by about the 25th April.
We thank the tablers of RTBI for their patience and support in making this dream come true. We will be proud to be the facilitators for RTBI sponsored school in Sri Lanka.
