· 11th August 2005 - RTS discusses with
The Parish Priest on the request to donate the partly constructed
Church Mission Hall for the school auditorium. RTS learnt that the
Church members and the donors are not in agreement for this proposal,
however are in agreement to compensate an equal portion of the utilised
land as an extension of the existing land towards the Church by
which the school will have the 17,500 sq feet land available.
· 27th July 2005 - RTS meets President of
S.D.S. of the school to seek survey plans of this larger land. Since
the survey plans and details of this land were not available RTS
committee meets The Bishop in Trincomalee to seek the relevant documents.
The Bishop gave a copy of a letter donating this land of 17,500
sq feet to the Education Department in April 1991 to RTS committee.
RTS committee proposed to The Bishop to donate the partly constructed
Mission Hall to the school for their auditorium and develop the
existing school building, which is adjoining the church for the
Church Mission Hall. The Bishop requested time to be discussed with
the Church and the donors and reply suitably. However, the rest
of the available land is readily available for the school development
without any restrictions.
· 7th July 2005 - RTS meets The Parish Priest,
St John de Britto to request to agree on donating the land without
the conditions, which are administrative issues on the school. Such
issues will invariably be attended and cleared once the school is
developed with all the modern facilities. RTSL learnt that at this
point that a very large portion of land owned by the Church was
donated to the MOE more than 14 years ago which is in the rear of
the Church, closer to the lagoon to develop the school. This land
of 100 feet by 175 feet, total of 17,500 sq feet was utilized by
the school with construction of suitable temporary classrooms and
toilet facilities before the Tsunami Disaster destruction. RTS immediately
agreed to utilise this land for the new school building. However,
it was noticed that a considerably small part of this land was already
being used to construct the Church Mission Hall.
· 31st May 2005 - RTS meets Zonal Director
of Education in Batticaloa to discuss the conditions what are in
agreement by the MOE and the reasons for the others not in agreement.
· 6th May 2005 - RTS receives a fax copy of the letter from
The Church Parish Priest to the Zonal Director of Education listing
the conditions for donating the land extension.
· 3rd May 2005 - RTS meets Zonal Director
of Education in Trincomalee and learnt that St. Britto Church had
offered the extension of the 1,800 sq feet with 10 conditions not
agreeable by the MOE.
· 26th April 2005 - RTS designs the school
draft plans but finds it very congested and difficult to accommodate
200 children and proposes to make 3 Storey structures to the MOE
with special approvals to consider. MOE agrees to the proposal on
condition of taking into account suitable safe facilities for the
children on the upper floors.
· 5th April 2005 - Zonal Director of Education
proposes construction of two buildings of two storey structures
within the available land.
· 4th April 2005 - RTS discussion with Zonal
Director of Education on progress of the land and school building
proposal. RTSL was informed that the additional land extension is
not available from the church.
· 15th March 2005 - The Parish Priest to
give an extension to the school land of 20 feet by 90 feet, total
1,800 sq ft with 10 conditions to fulfill by the MOE before beginning
any project. Not informed to RTSL.
· Early March 2005 - Discussions by The
Zonal Director of Education with The Parish Priest, St. John de
Britto Church neighbouring the school to seek additional land.
· 14th February 2005 - RTS meeting with
District Secretary of Education and Zonal Director of Education
at MOE discussing on the availability of land and proposal to the
size and facilities required for the school. The available land
is 60 feet by 90 feet, total 4,800 sq ft.
· 31st January 2005 - “Regaining The
Smile” (RTS) committee meets Secretary MOE and Additional
Secretary MOE briefing of the type of school and cost structure.
· 21st January 2005 - RTSL signs MOU with
The Ministry of Education.
· 15th January 2005 - RTSL visit to the
school to access the destruction and meet the school administration.
· 14th January 2005 - Ministry of Education
(MEO) gave list of schools to Round Table Sri Lanka (RTSL).
